Giving local children a
hope for a bright future.

Mercy Mission
School

There are over 1.3 billion people in India. The economy has developed rapidly over recent years but many people are being left behind.

In  Andhra Pradesh, there are many who are unable to read or write. Illiteracy rates remain high (over 60% in rural areas in 2020)*. Many children, often due to poverty, do not attend school.  Without an education, they have little hope of a bright future.

Mercy Mission English Medium School was established to provide quality education in a Christian environment. Originally back in 1997, the school started with just six children. Now there are over 750.
All the children in Mercy Children's Home attend the school with the remaining pupils coming from surrounding villages. The school has developed to become one of the very best in the area and is highly regarded in the local community. In fact, there is an urgent need to extend the premises with an additional five classrooms

Children receive lessons in all basic subjects. They take external examinations and obtain recognised qualifications. As well as learning English, children also Learn Hindi, Telegu, Maths, Science, PSHE, and Physical Education. Many go on to study in Further or Higher education.
