There are over 1100 million people in India. It will soon be the most populous country on earth. The economy is developing rapidly but many people are being left behind.
In Andhara Pradesh, there are many who are unable to read or write. Indeed, illiteracy rates are amongst the highest in India. Many children, often due to poverty, do not attend school. Without an education, they have little hope of a future.
Mercy Mission English Medium School was established to provide quality education in a Christian environment. All the children in Mercy Childrens Home attend the school with the remainder coming from surrounding villages. The majority of children pay very modest fees which pay for the salaries of the teachers. However, those unable to pay receive free education, uniform and transport. Without Mercy Mission School, many of these children would miss out on an education
The school day starts at 9am with all the children gathering outside for a short morning Assembly. Many of the children arrive by school bus. After Assembly, the children disperse to their classes. Children receive lessons in all basic subjects. They take external examinations and obtain recognised qualifications. As well as learning English, children also Learn Hindi, Maths, Science, PSHE and Physical Education
